Marriages in a small city of India like Haryana can be very expensive with the state government yesterday stating a new cess on marriage venues, lawns and banquet halls as the state’s budget for 2007-08.State Finance Minister Birender Singh said that the new cess on places being offered for marriages and other ceremonies was being imposed as these facilities had mushroomed in the state in the last 5-10 years.
It was further said by the Finance Minister that such facilities has developed in a large number, specially in areas near Delhi such as Gurgaon and Faridabad. And they are putting more burden on the civic amenities such as electricity , water etc and hence the case has been proposed. He proposed a budget totaling. Rs179.17bn.
Singh said fiscal 2007-2008 was expected to open with a deficit of Rs334mn and close at a manageable Rs.68mn. He added that state officials would work out the actual amount of the cess on marriage places after a survey of the facilities across Haryana.
